Vaccine Study for Adults 60+ at Risk for C. diff infection

Medical Condition

C. difficile Infection (C. diff)

PMG Research of Hickory

60 and older

A research study is evaluating an investigational vaccine for adults ages 60 or older who are at an increased risk for C. diff.

Although there is no vaccine currently approved, this investigational vaccine is designed to protect against a bacteria called C. difficile also known as C. diff. This type of bacteria can cause frequent diarrhea, abdominal pain and inflammation of the colon which, when severe, can be life threatening. Those over 60 years old who have recently taken antibiotics, frequently visit their doctor or hospital, or reside in a nursing facility are most at risk.

This research study may be an option if you or a loved one:
Are at increased risk of exposure to C. diff defined as one of the following:
- At least 1 inpatient hospitalization of 2 or more nights in the last year
- At least 2 emergency room visits in the last year
- At least 10 outpatient clinic visits in the last year
- Reside in a nursing facility
- Have received antibiotics (oral or injected) in the last 12 weeks
Have not previously received a C. diff vaccine
Have not experienced a prior episode of C. diff infection

Other criteria apply.  Please make sure to discuss with a member of our research staff to ensure this research study is a good fit for you.

Qualified participants will receive all study-related care and study vaccine at no cost.
